Our sensory garden is designed to stimulate the senses through a variety of plants and features. Each station is designed to engage a specific sense, creating a rich and immersive experience for everyone. We have five stations to enjoy:
Touch Station
This area includes plants and materials with diverse textures. Visitors can feel the variety of rocks in the Sensory Wheel of Texture, there is a Tactile Map of the garden, go Barefoot on the Round Labyrinth, and cool off with a refreshing water mist at the Splash Pad.
Sight Station
This section is visually stimulating, with brightly colored flowers, contrasting foliage, and artistic elements of garden art. The arrangement of colorful flowers and shapes of plants create visual patterns that delight the eyes. While you are there, take the time to read an inspirational quote.
Smell Station
Aromatic plants dominate this station. Herbs like lavender and mint offer a perfumed aroma to the garden along with fragrant flowers when in bloom. Visitors can crush a mint leaf to release their fragrances.
Sound Station
This area features elements that create sounds. Wind chimes and our rain wheel provide a soothing auditory experience. Drums and instruments can be used to create musical rhythmic beats. Birds are encouraged to visit this part of the garden with bird feeders to offer the natural sounds of peace and delight.
Taste Station
Edible plants and herbs are the focus here. Visitors can sample fresh fruits, vegetables, and herbs. This station might include strawberries, cherry tomatoes, and even a cucumber at times. A variety of culinary herbs that can be tasted or smelled. Bring your own taste to the garden with a picnic lunch at our pavilion.
**While we like to offer the garden to our local community for inclusion, please note that it is located and maintained on a private residential property. Respect and courtesy for the property and those who care for it is expected. Individuals with children must be supervised and no pets are allowed. Large groups are not able to be accommodated in this small space.
If at any time visitors conflict with residential and day program operations or the safety of others, we reserve the right to ask them to leave.**
