People with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) experience loneliness at significantly higher rates than neurotypicals due to social stigma, exclusion, and limited opportunities for meaningful relationships. Barriers such as communication difficulties, lack of community support, and societal misconceptions often leave people with I/DD isolated, despite their desire for connection.
At People’s Arc of Suffolk, our vision has always been to create an equitable and integrated community for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. This newly-developed center exists for that exact reason.
