People’s Arc of Suffolk, formerly AHRC Suffolk has been awarded $108,121 in grands from NYSARC Trust Services to support guardianship and new recreational opportunities for people with disabilities in Suffolk County.
BOHEMIA, NY – December 11, 2024 – People’s Arc of Suffolk, formerly AHRC Suffolk, a not-for-profit organization supporting people with disabilities in Suffolk County, has been awarded $108,121 in grants from the Trustee Management Board of NYSARC Trust Services to support People’s Arc of Suffolk’s guardianship and recreation programs.
NYSARC Trust Services administers supplemental needs trusts (SNT) that can make dramatic improvements to the lives of people with disabilities while enabling them to maintain eligibility for public benefits programs, such as Medicaid and SSI. For 2024, NYSARC Trust Services is proud to fulfill its commitment to enhancing the lives of people with disabilities by awarding a total of $2,697,508 in grants to The Arc New York Chapters statewide.
People’s Arc of Suffolk received $93,700 to support guardianship services for people with intellectual and other developmental disabilities who would not otherwise have a legal guardian or advocate. Supported by Chapter staff and community volunteers, the Guardianship Program currently provides guardianship supports and services to 13 people and is ready to assist 12 more as a Standby, and 3 as an Alternate Standby Guardian.
NYSARC Trust Services also awarded People’s Arc of Suffolk $14,421 to support new recreational opportunities to enrich the lives of the more than 1,000 individuals that it serves. This grant enables the individuals to enjoy community outings like bowling, movies and visiting local farms, museums, and other attractions. It also allows them to purchase supplies and equipment for arts and crafts projects and other indoor activities.
